GARY, Ind. - The RailCats have signed former Valparaiso pitcher Jon Gulbransen, and the left-hander will start tonight's series finale against Lincoln at 7:10. To make room for his signing, the RailCats placed outfielder Sean Henry on irrevocable waivers.

Gulbransen, 23, will be making his first career start tonight. He was signed by the White Sox as an undrafted free agent on June 18, 2011 and spent last season pitching for Great Falls in the rookie Pioneer League. Prior to that Gulbransen pitched collegiately at Valparaiso University from 2008-2011, where he was a teammate of RailCats left-hander Tyler Deetjen from 2009-11.

Last season in Great Falls, Gulbransen was 0-1 with a 7.56 ERA in 17 relief appearances for the White Sox rookie affiliate. In 16 2/3 innings, he gave up 14 runs, all earned, struck out 19 and walked 11. Opponents hit .343 against him.

Gulbransen holds the all-time school record at Valparaiso with 327.1 innings pitched. He is fourth all-time with 18 victories and third all-time with 264 strikeouts. He was 18-28 with a 4.78 ERA in 59 career games.

Henry was hitting .221 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 21 games as a RailCat prior to his release.
