Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 1/18/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas dropped their fourth straight game, losing to the Rocky Mountain Rage by a final score of 6-3 on Friday night at the Amarillo Civic Center. The Gorillas completed their five game season series with the Rage, unable to get past Rocky Mountain in any of their meetings, going 0-4-1 against them on the year.
The Rage entered the contest with the best winning percentage in the CHL, and played the part to perfection, going 3-5 on the powerplay, and chasing Gorillas goalie Dan McWhinney at 15:12 of the first period. McWhinney gave up three goals on the eight shots that he faced, and Head Coach Jim Wiley pulled him in favor of Dan Bauer, marking the first mid-game goaltending switch for the Gorillas this season.
Rocky Mountain had a 3-1 lead after the first period, but Shaun Arvai would make it a 3-2 game scoring early in period two. That is as close as the Gorillas would get however, as Rocky Mountain pulled away off back-to-back goals from Daymen Rycroft. Matt Miller would add his second goal of the game at 8:37 of the second to pull the score to 5-3, but Weisgerberg's goal early in period three would seal the deal for the Rage, who secured their 25th win of the season.
Terry Dunbar was in net for the Rage, making 35 saves on 38 shots. The Gorillas will host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees tomorrow night, and try to snap out of a four game losing streak before heading to Austin to take on the Ice Bats on Sunday afternoon. The first 1,000 fans through the door on Saturday night will receive the first of four sets of limited edition Amarillo Gorillas trading cards, courtesy of Amarillo Laser and Vein Clinic.
