Rocky Mountain Rage Keep Their Hold on Top of CHL Coaches Poll
January 18, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
For the third straight poll, the Rocky Mountain Rage has claimed the #1 spot in the CHL Coaches Poll. The CHL's top team saw their lead decrease six points to a 14-point cushion over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs who jumped from #5 to #2 in the most recent poll. Many teams jumped around moving in some cases several positions. Only the Rage remained in the same spot since the last poll released on January 3rd. Four different teams received first place votes (Rocky Mountain, Bossier-Shreveport, Laredo and Colorado).
The Rage is 24-5-3 and own the CHL's highest winning percentage (.797). The Bucks own the most wins in the CHL (26) and have the highest winning percentage in the Southern Conference (.730). The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have their current 13-game winning streak to thank for their incredible movement from the bottom of the poll to the #2 position in the past month. The other top mover in the most current poll is the defending President's Cup champion Colorado Eagles who moved three spots from #7 to #4. The biggest drop came from the Youngstown SteelHounds who earlier in the season held the top spot but in the most recent poll fell from #3 to #7 due to their 4-5-1 record in their last 10 games.
Voting for the CHL Coaches Poll is done by the 17 CHL Head Coaches. The Rage received 10 of the 17 first place votes and the Mudbugs earned five first place checkmarks (teams cannot vote for themselves).
The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll is released at the beginning and the middle of each month throughout the season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earns nine points, etc.
