Comeback comes short against Bossier-Shreveport

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds made a valiant effort to comeback from a 2-0 deficit but fell just short to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs by a score of 3-2 on Friday night.

The Mudbugs jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a four-on-four goal from Brett Smith at 2:06 of the first period. Bossier-Shreveport extended its lead as Tyrel Lucas scored a power play goal at 11:45 to make it 2-0 after one period. The Bugs were 2-5 on the power play while Youngstown was 0-8.

In the second period it was Joel Irving who scored his 13th goal of the year for Youngstown at 14:38 to make it a 2-1 game after two periods.

In the third period Kirill Starkov scored at 6:54 to tie the game at two. Starkov has a point in seven of his last eight games. It was not enough though as a penalty on Eric Przepiorka with less than two minutes left set up Chris Brassard for the game winner for Bossier-Shreveport at 18:47 to give the Mudbugs a 3-2 win. The Hounds out shot the Mudbugs 40-18 in the game.

Bossier-Shreveport has won 14 straight games to improve to 24-7-3 (51 points) and have a nine point lead over Youngstown for first place in the Northeast Division. The SteelHounds have lost five in a row (0-4-1) and are 20-12-1 (42 points). These two teams will meet up at the Chevrolet Centre again on Saturday night at 7:05.
