Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Battle Creek, MI - July 1, 2012 - Nothing like free baseball especially for the Rafters. The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters improved to 3-0 in extra-inning play with a 10-8 win in eleven innings from C.O. Brown Stadium against the Bombers in Battle Creek.
The Rafters took a 3-0 lead in the first. With the bases loaded, Alex Bacon (SO, Univ. of North Florida) knocked in a pair of runs on his first of two doubles and Brandon Hohl (JR, Univ. of Illinois) scored another on a sacrifice fly.
The Bombers would score the next six though. Cam Seidl (JR, UW-Stevens Point) ran into the walk-bug once again, walking four in just 2.2 innings. The bullpen didn't help his cause as both inherited runners scored off Skyler Debilzen (JR, UW-La Crosse) in the third. In total, Seidl allowed six runs, all of them earned on five hits to go along with the four walks.
With a 7-5 deficit in the seventh, the Rafters got a big lift from Aaron Jones (JR, Winston-Salem State). He knocked in a run on a single and another scored on a throwing error to tie it.
Both teams traded zeros in the eighth and ninth. In the tenth, the two squads both scored a run. Failing to get a sacrifice bunt attempt down turned into good fortune for the Rafters, as, with men at first and second, Jordan Dreiling (JR, Univ. of Kansas) knocked in a run on a groundball single to make it 8-7 in the top of the tenth. The Bombers would even it off of Seth Fuller (FR, Western Illinois Univ.), getting an RBI-single from AJ Spanel in the bottom half.
In the eleventh, the Rafters would put Battle Creek away. Four of the first five batters in the eleventh reached, and Battle Creek error helped Wisconsin Rapids to two runs. Fuller pitched a scoreless eleventh getting the win, his fourth.
The Rafters (15-16) and the Bombers (13-19) play once again at C.O. Brown Stadium before heading back home for the week of July 4. First pitch Monday in Battle Creek is at 6:05 CST.
