July 1, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
The Bullfrogs' winning streak was snapped at five games on Saturday night as they fell to the Battle Creek Bombers by a score of 4-3 at Joannes Stadium.
Green Bay struck first in the first inning. Fresh off his walk-off single last night, Duncan McAlpine drove home two with a looping liner to left to give the Bullfrogs a 2-0 lead.
The Bombers tied it up in the fourth. Two runs came home, one on a Kyle Figgins RBI groundout, and another when Chris Sujka scored on an Alex Abrams error at third base. Green Bay had five errors on the night.
Collin Shaw's RBI single in the sixth inning brought home Alex Abrams to give the Bullfrogs a 3-2 lead heading into the late innings.
Aided by two Green Bay errors on one play, Battle Creek brought it back to even again in the seventh inning. Bud Jeter's pickoff attempt of Tom Albert sailed wide of Justin Seager at first base. Albert advanced to third on the throwing error, and then came home to score when Seager's throw to third was off line. This made the score 3-3.
Battle Creek took a 4-3 lead for good in the eighth on Dillon Moyer's solo shot to right field off of Jeter.
The loss went to Jeter (1-2). Harry Stanwyck gave up one earned run over four innings of work in his second start with the Bullfrogs. He was relieved by David Armendariz who went two scoreless. Jeter gave up two runs, one earned, over two innings. Robb Woodcock pitched a scoreless ninth.
The LaCrosse Loggers also lost on Saturday, so Green Bay remains two games back of first place in the Northwoods League South with four games to play in the first half of the season.
The Bullfrogs head to LaCrosse on Sunday to begin a two game set with the Loggers. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 5:05 PM. As always, if you cannot make it to the game you can watch live at northwoodsleague.tv or listen live at greenbaybullfrogs.com.
