University of Oregon and former Rochester Honker catcher Brett Hambright received a very respectable honor last week when he was named to the USA Collegiate National Baseball Team.

Hambright, who was a redshirt senior at Oregon in 2012, played in the first six games for the USA team. In eleven at bats, Hambright had three hits, three runs scored, and an RBI.

In the second game of the Prospect Classic on Saturday, June 30th, Hambright went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI as the USA Baseball Stars defeated the USA Baseball Stripes by a final score of 15-3.

In his final season as an Oregon Duck, Hambright played in 59 games and hit .217 with a homerun and 15 RBIs and helped lead the Ducks to a 46-19 record.

Brett was named to the Eugene All-Regional Team after Oregon won their first regional since 1954. Hambright hit a two-run homerun in the championship game to help send the Ducks to their first Super Regional in over a half a century.

The two-time MLB draft pick (34th round by Phillies in 2007 and 38th round by Rockies in 2009) played in 34 games with the Rochester Honkers in 2011. Hambright batted .248 with two homeruns and 14 RBIs. On July 12th, 2011 against the St. Cloud River Bats, the Corona, CA native went 2 for 2 with a homerun, three runs scored, and four RBIs in a 10-9 Honkers victory.

The USA Collegiate National Team will complete the Prospect Classic on July 3rd in Durham, NC and then travel to Havana, Cuba for a five-game series against the Cuban National Team. The team will also play in Haarlem, The Netherlands against ball clubs from China, Japan, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Netherlands from July 14th-22nd.
