Rafters Return from Canada to Take on Bullfrogs
August 2, 2014 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - After a three game set in Canada, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (11-18, 23-41) will look to keep the bats rolling at Witter Field tonight as they take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs (14-14, 31-32). The Rafters are coming off of a dominating victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats where they won 12-5 as Jake Cage (3-1, Azuza Pacific) was masterful in eight innings of work. The Bullfrogs are coming off of a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Kalamazoo Growlers, a loss which snapped their three game winning streak.
Starting for the Rafters tonight will be right handed pitcher Chip Rosales (0-1, Valley City State). Rosales is coming off of a shaky outing against the Lakeshore Chinooks where he gave up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. As a team, the Bullfrogs are sixth in strikeouts in the Northwoods League, which could bode well for Rosales as he has struck out 12 batters in 12.1 innings pitched this season.
The Green Bay Bullfrogs pitching staff will be sure to be very cautious pitching to this Rafters lineup, as over the last four games they have tallied 34 runs. One of the reasons for the offensive explosion from the Rafters is due to the emergence of outfielder Kirby McGuire (New Mexico). Over these last five games McGuire is batting a remarkable .471 and has scored five runs. Shortstop Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) has also kept his All-Star season going as well. Over the past seven games he is batting an astounding .583 and now has an on base percentage of .509, which is good for first in the entire Northwoods League.
Tonight is Marshfield Clinic Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark. All Rafters players and coaches will wear purple uniforms which will be available for silent auction. You can bid on these jerseys at the game tonight or online as well. Also tonight's Kids Run the Bases following the game, also sponsored by Marshfield Clinic. Game time is scheduled for 6:05pm with gates opening at 5:05pm.
