Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Wausau, WI - The Kingfish traveled to Wausau today to face the Wisconsin Woodchucks in a pivotal two game series. The two teams are neck and neck in the playoff race, and this series will help decide who will reach the post-season. In tonight's game, the Kingfish fell 4-2 and now sit a game back overall in the season on the Woodchucks.
In the top of the fourth, the Kingfish tallied their first run with a leadoff double from Pat Porter, who was driven in one out later with a Zach Jones single. Their second and final run came in the fifth, where they had three hits. Zack Kolakowski reached base on a single and was pushed across home on a double play ball hit by Pat Porter.
The Woodchucks struck in the fourth, behind a three run homer from Paul DeJong, who is second in the league in home runs. Kingfish starter Trevor Haas went for seven innings and allowed only those three runs but suffered the loss. Relievers Garrett McKenzie and Coley Thompkins pitched the final frame with McKenzie charged with the Woodchucks final run.
Duffy Dyer's team tried to get things going in the ninth with two walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases with two outs, but could not push across any runs. The Woodchucks bullpen did their part tonight, giving up only one hit in the last four innings.
The Kingfish return to Kenosha on Monday, August 4th for a doubleheader. The night will be a doubleheader with the first game a continuation of a previously delayed affair. The game will resume in the 10th inning. It will start at 5:30 p.m., gates will open at 4:30 p.m. The second game will start no earlier than 7:05 p.m. and will be a complete nine inning contest.
