Express Take a Walk over the Anchors

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Eau Claire Express Friday night, losing by a final score of 18-11. The high scoring ballgame would feature a combined 21 walks as well as 6 Hit by pitches for a combined 27 free bases.

The Express got on the board early after a solo home run from Brian Mundell in the second. Later in that inning, a bases loaded walk would make it 2-0 Express.

The Anchors would bounce right back in the bottom of the inning though, a bases loaded walk from Ben Allen would bring in the team's first run of the game. Later in the inning, Cam Duzenack would deliver a two out, two RBI single to take a 3-2 lead.

The offense would pick right back up in the top of the third after a lead off home run by Daniel Salters would tie the game back up. Five batters later, another RBI walk would give the Express a 4-3 lead. After that, a trio of singles from Peter Van Ganseen, Lane Milligan, and Brian Mundell would drive in four more to make it 8-3 Eau Claire.

Aaron Gretz would keep the trend of offense up in the bottom of the third with a two run blast to shorten the deficit to 8-5. Those runs would be taken back and then some in the top of the fourth however. Another trio of singles by Ganseen, Milligan, and Mudell would add three runs to make it 11-5 Eau Claire.

The offense would cool down for a few half innings and then pick back up after a two run home run from Van Ganseen would make it 13-5 Express in the top of the sixth. Four more Eau Claire runs would score in the inning on a Mundell single, another RBI walk, and a pair of sacrifice fly balls.

In the bottom of that sixth, Jeremy Hyde would poke an RBI single to left and bring in the sixth run of the game for Alexandria. Two pitches later, Aaron Gretz put some life into the crowd with his second home run of the game; the two run shot would leave it 17-9 Eau Claire entering the seventh inning.

Both teams would add one more in their respective halves of the eighth inning to make it 18-10 Eau Claire through eight.

Aiden Hook got his first hit and RBI of the season as he would knock in run number eleven for the Anchors in the ninth. The game would be over not long after that, and the final score would end up a whopping 18-11 in favor of Eau Claire.
