Mallards Downed by Loggers Tonight in La Crosse

La Crosse, WI - The Madison Mallards (15-17, 33-32) fell to the La Crosse Loggers (10-20, 31-34) tonight in La Crosse by a score of 6-1. The Mallards sit five games back of second place in the overall Northwoods League South Division standings, and must finish in second place overall to advance to the playoffs, assuming the first half champions Lakeshore Chinooks hold their lead in the second half standings.

Loggers starter Ty Provencher (Long Beach State) earned the win after pitching seven shutout innings, giving up two hits while striking out four.

The Loggers scored two runs in the first inning off Mallards starter Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) and four more in the seventh. First baseman Kevin Zak (Grand Valley State) led the Loggers offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Buffett went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out one in the loss.

Mallards right fielder Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) homered in the eighth to record the Mallards sole run. Catcher Austin Barr (Stanford) continued his production at the plate, going 2-for-3 and extending his hit streak to seven games.

The Mallards stay in La Crosse tomorrow to wrap up their two game series against the Loggers at 5:05 pm. They return to the "Duck Pond" on Monday to face the Alexandria Blue Anchors at 7:05 pm.
