Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Kokomo, Ind. - After winning a close 6-5 contest in game one with the Kokomo Jackrabbits (2-3), the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (3-2) go for the sweep Monday.
The Jackrabbits battled back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game Sunday, but Wisconsin Rapids scored late on an RBI single by Roman Trujillo that brought in the game-winning run in the ninth. Brayden Bonner earned the win in relief.
With the win, the Rafters now sit in a tie with Green Bay for second place in the Great Lakes West Division, one game behind the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders. Tonight's game is the second of four meetings between the Rafters and Jackrabbits as the teams will play two games in Wisconsin Rapids in August.
Nathan Hemmerling is projected to start for the Rafters. The freshman righty has a 3-1 record and a 2.13 ERA this summer. He will face Kokomo's Blaine Traxel, who holds a 3.04 ERA and a 1-1 record. Traxel pitched in relief Sunday, going two-thirds of an inning and striking out one batter.
The Rafters travel back to Fond du Lac for game one of a two-game series on Tuesday. The team then returns home Wednesday to close the series with the Dock Spiders at Historic Witter Field for Quality Feed and Seed Bark in the Park Night.
