Kenosha Kingfish News Release
KENOSHA, Wis. - The Kenosha Kingfish (2-4) lost to the Traverse City Pit Spitters (6-0) by a final score of 3-2 on Monday night at Historic Simmons Field.
The win was the 17th in a row for Traverse City dating back to the first half, which sets a new Northwoods League record for consecutive victories. The previous record was held by the Madison Mallards, which won 16 straight contests in 2007.
Connor Mang (New Mexico) gave Kenosha an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI single.
Traverse City put a runner on third base with no outs in the fifth inning, but Kingfish starting pitcher Matthew Plisko (Macalester) stranded him there to preserve the 1-0 lead.
Kenosha took a 2-0 lead on a Brendan Hueth (Saint Joseph's) sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Hueth extended his current hitting streak to 11 games on Monday night in addition to the sacrifice fly.
Plisko pitched five innings for the Kingfish and allowed no runs on two hits and four walks to go along with four strikeouts.
Adam Proctor (Michigan State) delivered a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning to put Traverse City on top 3-2.
Proctor went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and a run scored.
Kevin Hahn (California State-Stanislaus) got the save for the record-breaking victory with one-two-three innings in the eighth and ninth.
Pat Hohlfield (Jefferson) got the win for the Pit Spitters after working two scoreless innings in relief. Colton Gordon (Central Florida) suffered the loss for the Kingfish.
Kenosha travels to Traverse City to face the Pit Spitters again on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
