Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators made three errors in a six-run 1st inning on their way to a 12-7 loss at the hands of the Reading Phillies, Monday at Commerce Bank Park. Seth Bynum hammered a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, for the Senators.
It got ugly quickly for the Senators in the top of the 1st. Javon Moran led off with a bloop double down the right-field line. LHP Justin Jones made a pickoff throw to second base, but it was wild and went into center field and Moran raced around to score. Brad Harman and Greg Golson ripped back-to-back singles and Jeremy Slayden grounded out to advance the runners to second and third. Neil Sellers followed with a sacrifice fly to left to make it 2-0. Former Senator John Suomi singled to left to plate another run and extend it to 3-0. Clay Harris followed with an infield popup that dropped for another error and the inning continued. A wild pitch allowed Suomi to score and it was 4-0. Jones walked Luke Appert and pitcher Carlos Carrasco hit a fly ball to the warning track in right that was dropped for a third error and two runs scored to balloon the margin to 6-0.
The Senators plated a run in the bottom of the 1st on a two-out RBI double by Marvin Lowrance to cut it to 6-1.
The R-Phils piled on with three more in the 2nd inning. Slayden drilled a two-run homer and Sellers followed with a solo shot to make it 9-1.
Seth Bynum clubbed a solo homer in the 5th to cut it to 9-2. The Phillies plated three more in the top of the 6th to push the deficit to 12-2.
Harrisburg climbed back to within striking distance in the bottom of the 6th when, after three walks by RHP Carlos Carrasco, Bynum smashed an 0-2 fastball over the left-field fence to make it a 12-6 game. Another run scored on Ian Desmond's RBI single to cut it to 12-7, but the final ten Senators were retired in a row to end the game.
Jones was saddled with the loss to fall to 2-2. Carrasco collected the win to even his record at 7-7.
The Senators fell to 59-49, two games behind the Bowie Baysox. Reading is now 46-62.
The Senators and Phillies continue the four-game series Tuesday at 6:35 PM. RHP Zack Segovia (1-1, 9.28 ERA) goes to the mound for Harrisburg against Reading LHP Fabio Castro (8-1, 4.20 ERA).
