Colorado Eagles News Release
STOCKTON, CA. - Stockton forward Alan Quine netted a goal in each period to collect a hat trick and lead the Heat to a 6-3 victory over the Colorado Eagles on Sunday. The Heat scored two shorthanded goals, while goaltender Jon Gillies stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced in the contest to earn the win in net.
A 2-on-1 rush would lead to the game's first goal, as Eagles forward Travis Barron would field a rebound off a shot from Ty Lewis and slam the puck into the back of the net to give Colorado a 1-0 edge at the 10:53 mark of the first period.
An Eagles turnover late in the period would lead to a 3-on-1 rush for the Heat who would set up Quine with a cross-lot pass which he would steer past Eagles goalie Spencer Martin to tie the game at 1-1 with only 40 seconds remaining in the first period.
Stockton would reclaim the lead just 1:45 into the second period when forward Ryan Lomberg created a turnover on the penalty kill and sprinted down the ice before burying a shot from the left-wing circle to give the Heat a 2-1 edge.
Colorado would strike back on the power play when forward Martin Kaut settled a puck between the circle and snapped a wrist shot past Gillies to even the score at 2-2 at the 7:09 mark of the middle frame.
Quine would give Stockton back the lead on the power play, as he unfurled a wrister from the slot that would light the lamp and give the Heat a 3-2 advantage with 10:08 left to play in the second stanza. That lead would grow just minutes later when some sustained pressure in the Colorado zone set up forward Matthew Phillips to grab a cross-slot pass and whistle a shot into the back of the net, putting the Heat on top 4-2 at the13:35 mark of the second period.
Heading into the final 20 minutes, Stockton would build upon its lead when a shorthanded breakaway led to goal from the slot for forward Buddy Robinson to make it a 5-2 Heat advantage just 1:37 into the third period.
The Eagles would answer back just minutes later when Igor Shvyrev found forward Scott Kosmachuk flashing through the slot and threw a pass onto his tape, which he would direct past Gillies and into the net to trim Stockton's lead to 5-3 at the 6:44 mark of the final frame.
Quine would complete his hat trick on the power play when he fielded a drop pass in the slot and snapped a shot past Martin to give the Heat the 6-3 lead which they would carry to the final horn.
Colorado finished the night going 1-for-6 on the power play, while Stockton scored two goals on nine chances on the man-advantage. Martin suffered the loss in net for the Eagles, allowing six goals on 33 shots.
Colorado returns to action when the Eagles conclude their three-game road trip against the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday, February 23rd at 7:00pm MT.
