San Antonio Rampage News Release

Rockford, IL - Mark Cooper and Joey LaLeggia scored second-period goals to erase a two-goal deficit, but Brandon Davidson scored early in the third to lead the Rockford IceHogs (25-21-8) to a 5-2 victory over the San Antonio Rampage (24-23-5) on Sunday night at BMO Harris Bank Center.

The IceHogs extended their lead over the Rampage for the Central Division's last playoff spot to five points.

At 4:51 of the third period, Jacob Nilsson attacked the Rampage net from the left wing. Rampage goaltender Jared Coreau made the initial save but couldn't find the rebound as it rolled next to his right skate. Davidson got to it first and pushed in his first of the season to make it 3-2 IceHogs.

William Pelletier and Nick Moutrey scored into empty nets to cap the scoring for Rockford at 5-2.

Rockford took a 1-0 lead at 16:33 of the first. Trevor Smith disrupted Pelletier on the backcheck just inside the Rampage blue line, but former Rampage forward Andreas Martinsen found the loose puck. He fed Luke Johnson down low, and Johnson walked around an outstretched Coreau for his 11th goal of the season.

At 1:02 of the second period, Jordan Schroeder extended the lead, beating Coreau on a 2-on-1 rush from the right wing for his 14th goal of the year.

The Rampage would strike back at 3:54 of the second period. Adam Musil rang a shot off the crossbar and the rebound in the crease was banged in by Cooper for his second goal of the season. Cooper had netted his first AHL goal on Saturday night in Grand Rapids against the Griffins.

At 6:25 LaLeggia tied the game with his eighth goal of the year. Mitch Reinke's point shot was stopped by Rockford goaltender Kevin Lankinen. The rebound bounced off of LaLeggia's shoulder at the side of the net, and LaLeggia swatted at the puck just as it hit the ice to knock it through Lankinen's pads and tie the game.

Reinke notched two assists, giving him 31 points for the season. Reinke is two points shy of the rookie scoring lead among AHL defensemen.

Coreau made his 17th consecutive appearance for the Rampage, making 16 starts over that span. He came into Saturday night's game in relief of Evan Fitzpatrick.

The Rampage are 1-2-3 during the Rodeo Road Trip. The loss snapped their five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) against the IceHogs, and they are now winless in seven straight visits to BMO Harris Bank Center (0-5-2) dating back to their last victory on Dec. 7, 2016.

The Rampage head to California to face the Ontario Reign on Friday at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Puck-drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT, with the game available on the Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
