Tri-City Storm News Release
Lincoln, NE. - The Tri-City Storm scored four power-play goals in the third period, but the Lincoln Stars responded quickly to Storm tallies to beat Tri-City, 6-4, Friday at The Ice Box.
Mattias Goransson led the ferocious Storm power-play unit, completing his second multi-goal game of the season and finishing with three points. Carson Meyer had three points as well, including the Storm's fourth power-play goal.
Down by three goals entering the third, Tri-City's offense waged attack, generating thirteen shots in the final frame on Pat Virtanen and scoring on each of its four power plays. Virtanen made 26 saves and earned the win.
Goransson began the rush, wristing a shot past Virtanen from Carson Meyer and John Marino at the 7:27 mark of the second. Just 56 seconds later, the Storm's Joe Cipollone scored his second goal of the season from Aaron O'Neill to cut the lead to one.
After the two quick Storm tallies, Lincoln tallied twice in 1:21. Sam Kaupilla first struck 2:12 after the Storm's second goal to make it a 4-2 Lincoln lead. Next, Christian Evers scored to make it a three-goal lead at the 11:56 mark of the final frame.
It took 2:20 for the Storm to get back on the board, going on the power play and cutting the lead to two, thanks to Mattias Goransson's second goal of the game. Meyer earned his second assist, while Jake Wahlin garnered his first point.
Meyer and Goransson tied the most-prolific point-scoring night by a Storm player this season by finishing with three points.
Tri-City finished 4-for-8 on the man advantage, thanks to Meyer's stash goal from the center of the slot past Virtanen that cut the lead to one again.
Continuing the quick-strike theme of the night, Biagio Lerario tallied for the Stars 17 seconds later with 4:32 left in the period.
Matt Greenfield made nine saves before being replaced by Jake Kielly in the second. Kielly also made nine saves in relief, but allowed three goals in the third.
