Hawks Start Early in Win
November 6, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
A two-goal first period sent the Waterloo Black Hawks on their way to a 4-1 win against the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday at Sanford Premier Center.
The Hawks pulled ahead 3:52 into the game; Liam Pecararo came from behind the net and slipped a pass to Brandon Schultz, who flipped it into an open side. Then, with 43.6 seconds remaining before intermission, Waterloo scored again in similar fashion. Ronnie Hein ducked behind the cage, before dropping a pass to Marshall Moise for a shot which flew under the crossbar.
In the second, the teams traded goals. Sioux Falls scored first when Jack Suter made a strong move to the net through the right circle at 1:10. Six-and-a-half minutes later, Waterloo recorded a goal in transition. Bringing the puck up the rink four-on-two, Yuri Terao found Ben Newhouse with room to work in the right circle. The USHL Defenseman of the Week beat Stefanos Lekkas with a low shot and reestablished a two-goal lead.
The two teams managed just 15 combined shots on goal during the third; the only one to find the net traveled two-thirds of the rink off of Moise's stick into an open goal with 41.3 seconds remaining in regulation.
Sioux Falls outshot Waterloo 29-28 during the contest. Cale Morris picked up the win with 28 saves.
Saturday, the Black Hawks are back from Friday's trip to South Dakota to take on the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to meet Snoopy and Charlie Brown, and the first 500 at the rink will receive free movie popcorn or soda for the new Peanuts film. Good seats are still available from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
