Buccaneers lose to Fargo

November 6, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers scored first in the game against the Fargo Force but after giving up two back-to-back shorthanded goals 12 seconds apart to lose the lead, Fargo rattles off 7 unanswered goals to win 7-1.

Both goaltenders, Des Moines' Jan Ruzicka and Fargo's Ryan Wischow were on top of their game in the first period keeping it scoreless. The Buccaneers MidAmerican Energy power play came through in the second as Zach Jordan scored from the high slot through traffic to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead. Alec Rauhauser picked up the primary assist and Patrick Grasso the secondary assist, which was his team-leading 11th point of the season. The Buccaneers went on another power play in the period but Austin Pooley and Brody Stevens each struck with shorthanded goals for Fargo and the 2-1 lead the Force skated out of that penalty kill would hold up for the game. Denis Smirnov scored late in the period to give the Force a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Neither team would score in the first nine minutes of the third period until Cole Gallant picked up his first point of the season and then back to back penalties on Des Moines resulted in a 5 on 3 and then 5 on 4 power play goals for Fargo 47 seconds apart. Newly-acquired Hank Crone scored 27 seconds after the power play tallies to end the scoring.

Jan Ruzicka ended up with 30 saves on the night for Des Moines, Wischow with 27. The Buccaneers will again host the Fargo Force 24 hours later on Saturday, November 27th, with a 7:05 puck drop. It will be Military Appreciation Night which means ticket discounts and drink specials for fans with a valid military ID as well as special military-themed uniforms that will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds benefitting Veteran's Affairs.
