Brockton Rox News Release

Quebec City, Quebec (August 13, 2008) - The Quebec Capitales honored DH/1B Eddie Lantigua on Eddie Lantigua Night at Le Stade Municpal Wednesday night and Hollywood could not have written a better script. After erasing a 6-2 Rox lead over the last two innings, it was Lantigua who drove in the game-winning run with an infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning for Quebec's 7-6 win over the Rox.

After a deflating 14-4 loss on Tuesday night, the Rox came out and took control early, jumping to a 4-0 lead after three innings capped by RF Jud Thigpen's two-run home run. Quebec scored two runs in the fifth inning, but Brockton scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh to take a 6-2 advantage.

Looking for his 22nd career victory, Brockton RHP John Kelly tired in the seventh inning and allowed three runs to allow Quebec to pull to within a run at 6-5. Kelly departed after seven innings and ceded to RHP Matt Zachary. Zachary allowed a solo home run to the first man he faced, 1B Patrick Scalabrini to open up the eighth inning and tie the score.

After getting the first out in the ninth, Zachary walked RF Mike Goss and then CF Goefrey Tomlinson doubled to put runners at second and third base with one out. The Rox elected to intentionally walk 3B Patrick Deschenes to load the bases and set up the double play. However Lantigua would be the hero with a chopper over the mound which brought home Goss with the game-winner.

RHP Mike James picked up his fifth win with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. It was the tenth consecutive game the Rox have lost to Quebec, and the Capitales can sweep the Rox for the third straight series with a win on Thursday.

The teams complete the series on Thursday night at Le Stade Muncipal as Brockton sends RHP Wayne Lundgren (7-3, 3.62 ERA) to the mound against Quebec RHP Michel Simard (11-1, 2.53 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
