
Skyhawks win seventh straight

AUGUSTA, N.J. - *The Sussex Skyhawks used an early seven run lead to propel them to their seventh win in a row, a 8-5 decision over the Ottawa Rapidz on Wednesday night at Skylands Park.
Sussex's Yohanny Valera finished the night three for four with two runs scored and an RBI. Matt Weston finished with two hits and two RBI, while Kevin Rios had two hits and drove in a run.
The Skyhawks erupted for six runs in the bottom of the third inning when they batted around. The first four batters of the inning reached base on a walk and three hits. Mario Delgado blasted a double to drive in a run, and Sussex was able to get two runs across on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Chris Brown and Alex Frazier. When the dust settled, the Skyhawks led 7-0.
Ottawa stormed back in the top of the fifth with five runs to cut the Skyhawks' lead to 7-5. Jared Lemieux blasted a three run home run to spark the Rapidz.
Sussex extended its lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Valera solo home run to make it 8-5.
Rich Lawyer picked up the win after throwing two scoreless innings of relief for Sussex.
The teams return to action at Skylands Park on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. for the final game of a three game series. There will be fireworks at the conclusion of the game.
