New Jersey Jackals News Release
Nashua, NH - Isaac Pavlik (8-4) pitched six shutout innings on Wednesday night, earning the win and helping the New Jersey Jackals to a 7-3 win over the Nashua Pride at Historic Holman Stadium. Pavlik, the reigning Can-Am League Pitcher of the Week, scattered five hits and struck out five batters without surrendering a walk. The loss went to Nashua starter Jason Paul (3-4), who allowed seven runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings on the mound.
The Jackals relied on the long ball to jump out to an early lead as C Matt Lauderdale opened up the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put the Jackals up 1-0. In the third inning, Jackals 1B Juan Tejeda launched a two-run home run to left center, his team-leading 13th of the season, with SS Bryant Nelson aboard to extend New Jersey's lead to 3-0. That score held until the top of the sixth inning when Jackals DH Luke Allen connected for his ninth homer of the season, sending a Paul offering halfway up the pine trees in right field to make it 4-0 New Jersey.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Jackals added three more runs to pad their lead at 7-0. 3B David Urias led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by CF Zack Smithlin. After a one-out walk to 2B Marcus Sanders, Nelson dropped an RBI single down the right field line to plate Urias. Tejeda then lined a ball over the glove of Nashua SS Sandy Almonte to score Sanders and make it a 6-0 contest. Allen immediately followed with an RBI single of his own as Nelson came plateward to complete the Jackals scoring for the evening.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Pride were able to break through against Jackals' reliever Justin Barnes. Barnes loaded the bases with one out before allowing a two-run single to newly-acquired Pride RF Edgard Clemente. A third run also scored on the play on an error by Nelson as Nashua cut their deficit to 7-3, which was as close as the Pride would get.
For the Jackals, Tejeda's second home run in as many nights highlighted a 2-5 night at the plate. Allen also went 2-5 with two RBIs, while Nelson finished the evening 3-5 with two runs scored. The Jackals and Pride conclude their three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey sends right-hander Aaron Tressler (3-7, 5.66 ERA) to the mound against Nashua's Hideki Nagasaka (6-5, 5.22 ERA).
