(AUGUSTA, NJ) Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz were visiting the Sussex Skyhawks for the second night in a row on Wednesday night looking to even up the series. The Skyhawks scored early in the game and never looked back, cruising to an 8-5 victory.
The Skyhawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, when Matt Weston doubled to score Ron Perodin, who was on base with a single to lead off the inning. The home team exploded with six runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead. They sent 12 batters to the plate, collecting six hits and three walks against Adam Hawes.
The Rapidz never gave up and scored five runs in the top of the fifth. Nate Hall and Scotty McKnight were on base when Jared Lemieux connected for his fifth homerun to close the gap. With one out, Jereme Milons doubled and scored on Jabe Bergeron's triple, which was hit number 100 in the season for the first baseman. Bergeron then scored on Geiger's single to finish the scoring for the Rapidz.
Yohanny Valera completed the scoring for the game with his fifth homerun of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.
