Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - Tyler Phillips turned in an exquisite effort on the mound to help lead the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (6-5) past the Durham Bulls (5-9) by a final of 6-1 on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Durham managed to squeak out the first run of the game in the second inning. An error put a runner on to begin the inning and back-to-back singles, the final from Ruben Cardenas, brought a run in.
Jordan Luplow went deep for a second straight night, his third homer of the year, in the last of the second to tie the game at 1-1.
David Dahl gave the IronPigs the lead with a solo homer of his own leading off the fourth, his second homer of the season.
Simon Muzziotti and Scott Kingery singled to open the seventh before Cal Stevenson dropped down a sacrifice bunt that Durham threw away allowing Muzziotti to score. Kody Clemens then knocked a double off the wall to score two more runs and push the Lehigh Valley lead to 5-1.
Stevenson put the icing on the cake with RBI single in the eighth, making it 6-1.
Phillips (1-1) needed barely any run supports as he allowed just an unearned run over seven innings, walking three and allowing five hits (all singles), while striking out two. Jose Ruiz turned in his first multi-inning outing of the season, going the final two frames scoreless, striking out two.
Adam Leverett (0-1) absorbed the loss for the Bulls, allowing two runs in four innings on four hits, striking out two.
The 'Pigs and Bulls will play their series finale on Sunday night with first pitch slated for 1:35 p.m. In a rematch of the series opener, Kolby Allard. (0-1, 4.70) goes for Lehigh Valley while Joe Rock (0-0, 10.57) goes for Durham.
