Iowa Clinches Series Win at St. Paul

ST. PAUL, MN - The Iowa Cubs (9-5) held on to defeat the St. Paul Saints (6-7) by a score of 4-3 today at CHS Field. The win clinched a series victory for Iowa with still one game to play tomorrow.

Iowa took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Matt Mervis hit a two-run homer. The home run was the fourth of the series for Mervis and his third in his last two games.

The I-Cubs extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning on a run-scoring single from Patrick Wisdom.

DaShawn Keirsey Jr. cut Iowa's lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning with a two-run shot to left-center field. In the sixth inning, St. Paul tied the game at 3-3 on a run-scoring single from Alex Isola.

The I-Cubs regained a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Chase Strumpf.

Porter Hodge made his first outing with Iowa and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win. Colten Brewer worked 2.0 scoreless frames to pick up his third save.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Matt Mervis' home run gave him home runs in back-to-back games...he is the second I-Cub to homer in back-to-back games this season (Last - Patrick Wisdom 4/9-10).

- Jake Slaughter tallied his first three-hit game since Aug. 16, 2023 vs. Louisville.
