Povich's Performance Not Enough For Norfolk
April 13, 2024 - International League (IL)
Norfolk Tides News Release
NORFOLK, Va --- The Norfolk Tides (7-7) fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (9-4), 3-0, on Saturday night at Harbor Park. Cade Povich completed another stellar outing, striking out 10 batters one start after fanning nine in Charlotte.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once again began scoring Saturday night, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Carlos Narvaez launched his first home run of the season. Norfolk threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Ryan McKenna stole second base following a two out walk, but were unable to bring him home.
Then in the top of the eighth, Josh VanMeter extended the RailRiders lead when he launched a solo home run to make the score 2-0. The Tides attempted to cut into Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's lead in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases with consecutive singles from Errol Robinson and Heston Kjerstad, but were once again unable to bring home a runner.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tacked on another run in the top of the ninth following an RBI single from Jeter Downs to seal their fifth straight win against the Tides.
Starter Cade Povich continued his hot start to the season, making his first appearance since winning the first International League Pitcher of the Week award of the season. He went 5.1 innings, allowing just one run on a hit and two walks while striking out 10 batters, the most by a Tides pitcher thus far this season.
RHP Justin Armbruester (0-1, 9.72) will start on the hill for the Tides tomorrow in the final game of the six game series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. First pitch at 1:05 p.m.
