Charlotte Knights News Release
(JACKSONVILLE, FL) - Charlotte shortstop Colson Montgomery entered the 2024 season ranked as the number one prospect in the Chicago White Sox system. Over his last two days, Montgomery has given fans a glimpse of his remarkable talents.
Montgomery homered for the second straight day to help lead the Charlotte Knights to a thrilling 11-2 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday night from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL. Montgomery's home run was one of three home runs in Saturday's game for the Knights. In fact, it was the second consecutive day the Knights launched three home runs in a game.
Charlotte designated hitter Rafael Ortega hit the team's first home run of the day, a two-run shot in the top of the third inning. Montgomery connected on a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, his second of the year. Charlotte's third home run of the game came off the bat of center fielder Brett Phillips, who launched a grand slam in a six-run ninth inning. The blast was the first of the season for Phillips.
LHP Bailey Horn (1-1, 9.45) earned the win out of the bullpen for the Knights after he tossed two scoreless innings. Charlotte RHP Chad Kuhl started the game and allowed just one run on three hits over four innings pitched. Kuhl also fanned six batters on the night.
The Knights will conclude the six-game road series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) on Sunday with first pitch set for 3:05 p.m. from 121 Financial Ballpark. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
