Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC--Correlle Prime delivered a 3-for-3 performance on Thursday night to help lead the Asheville Tourists to a 5-4 victory over the West Virginia Power. The one-run margin at the end was the fifth time in seven meetings between these two teams that the final score has been decided by a lone run.
Prime connected with an RBI double in the first inning to put Asheville in front 1-0. After a third inning walk, Correlle found himself at the plate with the tying run at third base and two outs in the fifth. The Tourists were trailing 4-3, but the first-baseman laced a double down the left-field line to knot the game up 4-4.
In the bottom of the seventh, once again Prime wound up at the plate with Cesar Galvez at third base. With two outs and the score tied, Correlle served a line drive single back up the middle plating Galvez and providing the Tourists a 5-4 lead.
Zach Jemiola started for the Asheville and pitched very well. The right-hander chewed up six innings and surrendered four runs; only two of which were earned. Trent Blank notched the win with a scoreless seventh and Matt Pierpont recorded his first save of the season by tossing the final two frames.
JaCoby Jones' two-run Home Run in the top of the fourth was the offensive highlight for the Power. Jordan Patterson added a two-run homer for the home team. Base-running was a bit of an issue for both teams. The Tourists were thrown out on the bases five times while the visitors were tagged out on four separate occasions.
Both Asheville and West Virginia are back in action at McCormick Field on Friday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
