Lakewood, NJ - The Delmarva Shorebirds split a doubleheader with the Lakewood BlueClaws on Friday evening. Delmarva (58-59) won the first game by the score of 4-2, before dropping the nightcap in an 11-1 blowout.

Delmarva started the evening with a bang, hitting back-to-back home runs to take a 2-0 lead. Creede Simpson and Conor Bierfeldt each went yard in the second inning off Yacksel Rios. The Shorebirds added two more in the sixth with a Bierfeldt RBI followed by a single by Jared Breen.

Lakewood threatened in the bottom of the sixth, but Austin Urban was able to escape a major jam. The BlueClaws scored twice, and then loaded the bases to put the tying run in scoring position. Urban rung up Carlos Tocci on a called strike three to end the threat, stranding the bags full and preserving a 4-2 lead. Bennett Parry earned the win, while Austin Urban recorded his fifth save.

The BlueClaws came back for the split in a lopsided nightcap. A two-out error at third base set up a bases loaded opportunity for Mitch Walding. The BlueClaws third baseman capitalized with only the second hit surrendered by Shorebirds' starter Dariel Delgado, a grand slam over the right field fence.

The game broke open with a five-run fifth with some rare struggles by Alex Santana. The Shorebirds had gone five straight appearances without a run allowed. On Friday, he gave up four singles and three walks as Lakewood opened up a 9-1 lead. With two more runs in the sixth, the BlueClaws romped in the nightcap, 11-1.

Dariel Delgado suffered the loss in his first professional start despite allowing just two hits and all four runs being unearned. Ranfi Casimiro picked up the win for Lakewood in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Shorebirds can go for a much-needed series win on Saturday evening. Right-hander Janser Severino (1-2, 6.62) will start for Delmarva against Lakewood lefty Matt Imhof (0-1, 4.15). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at FirstEnergy Park.
