Greenville Drive News Release
Lexington, KY - For the second consecutive night, the Lexington Legends (19-29, 48-70) walked off with a victory over the Greenville Drive (14-34, 48-69), as Carlos Garcia hit a game winning single in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 Legends win.
The winning rally came against Drive reliever Oscar Perez (0-1), who was making his first appearance with the team. Alexis Rivera doubled to left with one out, and after a strikeout, Garcia dropped the game winning hit into center.
Trailing 5-4 heading to the top half of the ninth, the Drive tied things up when Wendell Rijo drew a bases loaded walk against Tim Hill (1-0), but Hill coaxed a groundout out of Sam Travis to keep the game knotted up.
The Legends jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as Frank Schwindel lined a two-run double off Daniel McGrath and Dominique Taylor, last night's walkoff hero, grounded out to plate another run.
The Drive would start to chip away at the Lexington lead with a run in the third against Luis Rico, as Cole Sturgeon doubled with one out and later scored when Tzu-Wei Lin lined a single up the middle.
They added a pair of runs in the fifth to tie the game, as Carlos Coste began the frame by lining a solo homer to left field, his first of the season and of his professional career. Sturgeon followed with a single to center, and he came all the way in to score on Manuel Margot's game-tying double.
A wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth gave the Legends a 4-3 lead, but the Drive tied the game back up when Lin's fielder's choice plated Sturgeon. The Legends answered right back in the seventh on Schwindel's RBI single.
Sturgeon went 3-3 with three runs on the evening, and Margot added three hits of his own. Rivera collected three hits for Lexington, while Schwindel had two hits and three RBI and Alfredo Escalera also picked up a pair of hits.
The Drive will look to get back on the right track on Saturday night at 7:05 with RH Ty Buttrey (0-3, 8.85) on the mound. The Legends will send RH Jake Junis (8-7, 4.44) to the hill.
