Charleston, WV (June 12, 2008) - The Greensboro Grasshoppers extended their winning streak to five games on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park as they took the first game of the series with a 3-1 victory over the West Virginia Power.

Mike Stanton, the South Atlantic League's leader in homeruns, went deep for the 15th time this season with a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning to give Greensboro a 3-0 lead. The Power scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth when Lee Haydel came home on Jonathan Lucroy's groundout.
Brett Durand (7-3) allowed just a run on five hits over five two-thirds to get the victory. Garrett Parcell (17) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get the save. Cody (2-1) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out six in a losing effort. Corey Frerichs held the âHoppers scoreless through three innings of relief.
