Greenville Drive News Release
Hickory, NC - Lately the Drive have been as sweltering as the June heat. With the temperature peaking at 90 degrees at first pitch, Greenville's (39-28) offense continued to blaze in a 4-1 victory Thursday night, completing the three-game sweep of the Crawdads (28-39) and claiming stake to a 5-1 record on their road trip.
Despite allowing 10 hits, the trio of Jose Alvarez, Javier Garcia, and Kyle Fernandes limited Hickory to just a single run in the bottom of the seventh. Alvarez (4-8) scattered six hits and two walks in 5.0 scoreless innings, while fanning six.
The Drive struck first in the top of the third as Manny Arambarris and Che-Hsuan Lin recorded back-to-back, two-out singles. The duo then exited a double steal perfectly, with Arambarris swiping home.
An inning later Luis Exposito extended Greenville's lead to 2-0 with his first of two homers, this one coming against Hickory starter Bradley Clapp (0-6). The All-Star catcher then gave the Drive a pair of insurance runs in the ninth, belting his team-leading 11th homer of the season, with Ryan Kalish aboard.
Reliever Javier Garcia allowed the Crawdads only run of the game, coming in his second inning of work. After issuing back-to-back walks to begin the seventh, Austin McClune laid down a sacrifice bunt and Miles Durham followed with an RBI-groundout.
Kyle Fernandes tossed the final two innings, earning his first save of the season. The side-armed southpaw allowed three hits and a walk, but struckout four.
The Drive return home to Fluor Field on Friday with a three-game series versus the Augusta GreenJackets to closeout the first half of the 2008 regular season. All-Star left-hander Felix Doubront will head to the mound for Greenville as Augusta counters with right-hander T.J. Brewer.
And don't forget, Father's Day is Sunday in which dads and kids will get to play catch on the field at the conclusion of the game. Single-game tickets, luxury accommodations, and group outings can be purchased by logging onto www.GreenvilleDrive.com or by calling (864) 240-4500.
NOTES: The Drive have won 13 of their last 15 games
