Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Asheville, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets (38-27) and Asheville Tourists (45-21) split their double-header on Wednesday night at 1-0 and 3-2. Augusta plated two runs in the final inning in the second game of the double-header but could not get the tying run across the plate.
In the first game of the double-header Madison Bumgarner (6-2) pitched the complete game shutout as Augusta won 1-0. Bumgarner pitched a career high seven innings and matched a career high with 10 strikeouts. The lefty allowed just four hits and no walks in the win.
Nick Noonan provided the only offense the GreenJackets needed with a one-out solo home run in the first, his fourth of the season, to give Augusta the 1-0 lead.
In the second game of the double-header with a Augusta trailing 3-1, Noonan nearly came through again with a three run homer but just pulled it foul down the right-field line. Noonan did come through with a two-out RBI single to make it 3-2, however on the play the relay back to the infield was over the head of the cutoff man and Francisco Peguero tried to score the tying run but was thrown out at home by third baseman Darin Holcomb to end the game.
The GreenJackets trailed 3-0 entering the final inning but Peguero broke up the shutout with an RBI single scoring Brock Bond from second base.
Chance Corgan (0-2) suffered the loss in the second game allowing one run on five hits in 3.2 innings. Corgan walked three and struck out one.
Asheville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI single from Brian Rike.
The Tourists made it 3-0 in the fifth inning with RBIs from Kevin Clark and Warren Schaeffer. Both runs were credited to reliever Ryan Paul.
The GreenJackets and Tourists finish up their three game series Thursday night with Augusta sending right-hander Oliver Odle (4-4, 4.29) to the mound. Asheville will counter with right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (10-1, 1.96). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
