BlueClaws blanked in loss

Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, Md. - The BlueClaws saw their first half championship hopes all but come to an end on Thursday night at Perdue Stadium after a 6-0 loss to the Shorebirds. It was the fourth time this season that Lakewood has been shutout.
The BlueClaws could not crack Delmarva starter Zach Britton (6-4), who pitched seven scoreless innings. Lakewood managed just three hits against Britton and three total in the game. The southpaw also struck out seven, while walking just two.
As of the final out, the BlueClaws trail Lake County by 3.5 games with the Captains game with Hagerstown still in progress. A Lake County win would officially knock the BlueClaws out of the first half title race. Delmarva is two games behind with three games against the BlueClaws to go before the All Star break.
Lakewood has now lost five of their last six games.
The BlueClaws only threatened once against Britton, picking up back-to-back hits to start the second inning. Michael Taylor notched a hit in the 23rd straight road game, but it was not enough as Britton came back to retire the rest of the side in order. Karl Bolt and Dennis Winn were the only other BlueClaws to get a hit.
Robert Neigebauer pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit.
The three hits matched a season low for the BlueClaws. They recorded just three hits in back-to- back games against Lake County on April 16 and 17.
And while Britton was on his way to his best start of the season, BlueClaws left-hander Jacob Diekman struggled. Diekman (1-4) gave up four runs, all earned in six innings. His control was far from his best, as the 21-year old walked four and hit a batter.
The 'Birds put the game away in the eighth, thanks to a pair of runs against recently recalled Yen-Feng Lin. Walley Crancer hit a two-run home run to rightfield to give Delmarva the final six-run advantage. Joe Nowicki also went deep for the Shorebirds, hitting his 10th home run of the season off of Diekman in the first inning.
While the BlueClaws title chances for the first half are all but over, the 'Claws still have plenty to play for. Overall record determines the wild card position should the same team win both the first half and second half championships.
Lakewood will send Chance Chapman (3-4) to the mound for the 7:05 p.m. start. The Shorebirds (37-29) will counter with right-hander Sean Gleason (3-0).
