'Jackets take rubber game

Asheville, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets (39-27) won the rubber game of a three game series against the Asheville Tourists (45-22) 4-3 Thursday night. Andrew De La Garza recorded the win in relief while Andrew Davis drove in the tie breaking run for Augusta.

With the scored tied 3-3 in the eighth inning Davis connected for a one-out RBI single scoring Garrett Baker for a 4-3 lead. It was the only hit in the series for Davis as he entered the at bat in an 0-for-8 skid.

De La Garza (5-0) was nearly perfect in relief working three shutout innings while striking out seven. The only base runner he allowed was in the seventh inning when Everth Cabrera reached on a fielding error from Thomas Neal.

Daniel Otero recorded his 17 save of the season recording the final two outs in the game.

The GreenJackets and Tourists traded leads over the first five innings before the Tourists tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Darin Holcomb off of starter Oliver Odle.

Odle worked 5.1 innings for the no-decision allowing three runs on seven hits. The right-hander did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Shane Jordan scored on an RBI ground out from Eliezer Alfonzo.

The Tourists took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer from Kevin Clark with one out in the frame.

Augusta reclaimed the lead in the third inning plating two runs on RBI singles from Alfonzo and Neal.

The GreenJackets begin a three game series against the Drive in Greenville, SC on Friday night to finish up the first half of the season. Augusta sends right-hander T.J. Brewer (4-4, 4.15) to the mound while Greenville counters with lefty Felix Doubront (7-3, 3.16). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Nick Noonan finished 1-for-3 to extend his hit streak to 11 games matching his career high.

Augusta is 18-4 in one run games this season.

Odle retired 10 straight at one point in the game before allowing a lead off base hit in the sixth inning.

Odle and De La Garza combined to strike out 12

Augusta is 34-0 when leading after eight innings this season.
