The West Virginia Power beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 8-3 at Appalachian Power Park on Thursday evening to snap a three-game losing streak. Nathan Baker tossed six solid innings and was backed by the best offensive output so far during the second half of the season as the Power tallied eight runs on 11 hits.

Aaron Baker put West Virginia on the board in the second inning with his tenth home run of the year. Two batters later, Jose Hernandez extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run home run, scoring Ramon Cabrera in the process, and giving Nathan Baker the early run support. The Power added two runs in the fourth and built a 5-0 advantage.

Delmarva cracked Baker in the fifth inning with its first hit and scored two runs on three straight doubles in the sixth. The Shorebirds added their third run on two hits against Maurice Bankston in the seventh.

In the West Virginia half of the seventh, Evan Chambers and Jarek Cunningham reached on consecutive walks. With two outs, Aaron Baker hit a ground ball the got through the legs of Shorebird first baseman Tyler Townsend and allowed both Chambers and Cunningham to score. The Power added a run on a Bengie Gonzalez base hit in the eighth to cap the scoring at 8-3.

Nathan Baker (5-5) earned the win, while Delmarva starter Kenny Moreland (4-3) was charged with the loss. Four different players had two hits each for the Power as West Virginia snapped its five-game home losing streak.

The Power and Shorebirds continue this five-game series on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. Phillip Irwin is slated to start for West Virginia against Delmarva's Jesse Beal. The first pitch is slated 7:05 pm.
