Lexington Legends News Release
Jose Trinidad pitched three and two-thirds innings of hitless baseball in relief, and Jonathan Meyer had four hits as the Lexington Legends defeated the Hickory Crawdads 6-3 Thursday night in Hickory.
Hickory took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a double by Travis Adair and singles by Matt West and Cristian Santana.
The Legends tied it in the second. Meyer doubled, Jiovanni Mier walked, and Jordan Comadena reached first when first baseman Ed Koncel failed to catch a throw following Comadena's sacrifice bunt. Meyer scored as Brian Kemp grounded into a double play.
Lexington took the lead with a run in the fourth inning on Meyer's second double, a single by Mier and an infield out by Comadena.
The Legends sent nine men to the plate and added four runs in the fifth inning. With one out, J.D. Martinez was hit by a pitch. He later stole second base, and scored with two outs on a single by Jake Goebbert. Meyer followed with a single, sending Goebbert to second, from where he scored a single by Mier. Meyer advanced to third and Mier to second on the throw to the plate. Meyer scored on a second error by Koncel after Comadena had hit a ground ball to third, and Kemp singled to drive in Mier, giving Lexington a 6-1 lead.
Hickory came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a walk to Edwin Garcia, a single by Adair, a sacrifice, a wild pitch that scored one run, and a double by Matt West. Trinidad relieved starter Juan Minaya at that point, and shut out the Crawdads without a hit through the eighth inning. Kirk Clark allowed a single in the ninth, but picked up his 15th save with a scoreless inning.
Trinidad (5-2) was the winner. Former Lexington Christian Academy star Robbie Ross (8-7) was the starting and losing pitcher for Hickory.
The two teams will meet again Friday night at 7 p.m. The Legends have taken two of the first three games in the five-game series.
