POWER REPLAY: West Virginia and Lexington split a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Legends held the Power to one hit in game one and took a 4-2 final. Jameson Taillon took his first professional loss. In the second game, Matt Curry and Rogelio Noris hit first inning home runs and West Virginia took a 9-3 victory. Dan Grovatt added his first home run of the season to back reliever Kevin Decker's first SAL victory.
TWO MUCH FUN: The Power are now 5-3 on doubleheader days this season after Wednesday's split. West Virginia swept a twinbill with Savannah on April 10, winning 9-1 and 2-0, and took both games against Greensboro on May 2. The Power lost both games of a doubleheader on April 23 at Kannapolis in walk-off fashion, leading 7-6 going in the last half inning and falling 8-7 in both games.
BACK FOR MORE: Rogelio Noris hit 15 home runs for West Virginia during the 2010 season and enters the year eighth all-time in Power history in the category. Stephen Chapman holds the single-season record with 24, which is also the most by any player during his stint with West Virginia. Noris is now one behind Andrew LaFave's 17 for seventh all-time and four away from moving into the top five.
THREE DOWN & THREE UP: Brandon Cumpton won his third straight decision with Saturday's win. The right-hander lost his first three starts of the season and held a 17.72 ERA after those appearances. Cumpton made one relief appearance and returned to the rotation when Tyler Waldron was placed on the disabled list in late April. Since his return to the rotation, Cumpton is 3-0 with a 1.62 ERA over 16 and two-thirds innings pitched
POWER V LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 62-58 and have the edge at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, winning 35 of 61 games. The Legends, however, hold a 32-27 mark at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia won the 2010 season set 9-8.
QUARTER MILE POST: On Sunday, the Power played their 35th game of the 2011 season, putting them one quarter of the way through the schedule. Even at 17-18, the Power were off to their best start in their brief affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates, dating back to 2009. The 2010 club was 15-20 after 35 games, were batting .236, and held a staff ERA of 3.70. The 2009 version were 12-23 with a .256 average, and a 3.42 earned run average. The Power had been 0-15when trailing after six innings in any scheduled nine-inning game this season prior to Monday. Conversely, West Virginia is now 13-0 when leading after eight innings (during a game scheduled for nine).
POWER POINTS: West Virginia's five game home winning streak was snapped on Sunday. It was the longest home winning streak of the season... The Power have already surpassed their April win total despite having played eight fewer games. West Virginia is 11-6 this month after going 9-13 last month... The Power will make up the May 3 rainout against Greensboro on June 14 at 5:30 pm as part of a doubleheader.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh shut out Cincinnatti 5-0 in their series opener...Indianapolis dropped a 6-1 final to Buffalo... Altoona lost 16-6 at Akron... Bradenton lost 13-3 to Dunedin.
