BlueClaws Silence Shorebirds 7-1 in Series Finale

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (23-18) did not score in the first eight innings as the Lakewood BlueClaws (18-22) took the series finale 7-1 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Shorebirds have lost back-to-back series for the first time this season.

Lakewood scored the game's first run in the second inning. Jim Murphy led off with a single. Two batters later, Domingo Santana singled to move Murphy to second. Then, Miguel Alvarez singled to give Lakewood a 1-0 lead.

The BlueClaws tacked on two more runs in the third. Murphy hit a ground rule double to score Carlos Perdomo and Anthony Hewitt singled home Murphy.

In the seventh, Lakewood broke the game open with four runs to build a 7-0 lead. The big hit in the inning was a Hewitt two-run single.

The Shorebirds scored their only run in the ninth inning. Michael Ohlman started the inning with a single. Two batters later, Riley Hornback doubled to the base of the left-center field wall to advance Ohlman to third. Then, Dudley Leonora hit a ground ball to second to score Ohlman.

Lakewood starter Garett Claypool earned the win in six shutout innings. He allowed only four hits and struck out seven batters. Right-hander Lisalberto Bonilla picked up the save in three innings.

Shorebirds starter Tim Berry was pinned with the loss in five innings on the hill. Berry surrendered seven hits and three runs.

The Shorebirds travel to Kannapolis, North Carolina for a four-game series beginning on Friday, May 20 against the Intimidators.
