Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, MD - After losing 5 consecutive games, the Lakewood BlueClaws have now won 2 straight. The BlueClaws won easily over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Thursday as they took the rubber game of the 3 game series by a final score of 7-1. It was an all around team effort as the BlueClaws got great starting pitching from Garett Claypool, and they pounded out 12 hits as a team en route to the 7-1 win.
Offensively the BlueClaws were paced by RF Anthony Hewitt who continues to play well for Lakewood as he was 3-5 in the game with a double, 3 RBI's, a run scored, and 2 stolen bases. It wasn't all Hewitt for Lakewood though as LF Miguel Alvarez went 3-4 with 3 RBI's as well, and 1B Jim Murphy chipped in with a 2-4 performance and 2 runs scored. 3B Geancarlo Mendez reached base 3 times going 1-3 and walking twice, and he came around to score 2 runs. Edgar Duran started at SS and picked up a single in the 8th inning to extend his hitting streak to 8 games.
On the mound, Garett Claypool was the story of the day. The RHP made his 6th start of the year for Lakewood and threw 6 shutout innings while picking up his first win of the year. Claypool struck out 7, allowed just 4 hits, and walked 2 in the game. The win-loss total doesn't indicate how well Claypool has pitched this year for the BlueClaws, as the 6 shutout innings on Thursday lowered his season ERA to 2.48. RHP Lisalberto Bonilla pitched the final 3 innings of the game for Lakewood striking out 3 and allowing 1 run on 3 hits and no walks.
Friday the BlueClaws will be in Charleston, WV for the first game of their 4 games series against the West Virginia Power as Lakewood looks to make it 3 wins in a row. The BlueClaws will send out LHP Ervis Manzanillo (1-2, 5.23 ERA) to the mound, and West Virginia will counter with LHP Colton Cain (2-3, 3.62 ERA). First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
