
'Hoppers Top 'Dads in 11 Innings, 3-2

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads tied the game in the eighth to force extra innings, but ended up falling to the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 3-2, in 11 frames, before 2,772 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday night.
Hickory (22-18) struck first against Greensboro RHP Rett Varner, scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning. 1B Andrew Clark started the frame with a single to right field and advanced all the way to third on a double to left by RF Josh Richmond. 3B Christian Villanueva then drove a fly ball to right, bringing in Clark on a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 Crawdads lead.
The Grasshoppers (23-17) came right back to tie it against RHP Nick Tepesch in the top of the fourth. CF Isaac Galloway led off with a double and took third on a fly out to center. LF Christian Yelich followed with an RBI ground out to first, tying the score at 1-1.
Greensboro picked right back up in the top of the fifth inning, taking their first lead of the game on a solo homer by RF James Wooster, putting the Grasshoppers in front, 2-1.
The Crawdads refused to go away, tying the game with a run against RHP Mike Ojala in the bottom of the eighth. Villanueva got on with a one-out single and promptly stole second base. One out later, DH Jhonny Gomez entered as a pinch hitter and placed a two-out RBI single to left-center field to plate Villanueva and square the score, 2-2.
After scoreless ninth and 10th innings, Greensboro retook the lead on a solo homer by 3B Ryan Fisher to start the top of the 11th against RHP Ryan Rodebaugh (L, 1-2). Grasshoppers RHP Michael Brady (S, 4) then dealt a three-up, three-down bottom of the 11th to close the 3-2 extra-inning victory for Greensboro. LHP Grant Dayton (W, 3-0) registered the win for the Grasshoppers.
