Lexington Legends News Release
APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY) -- The first six batters in the West Virginia Power lineup pounded out 20 hits and drove in nine runs to defeat the Lexington Legends 12-2. West Virginia catcher Jonathan LeCroy, the Brewers 2nd round pick in 2007, reached base five times, drove in four runs and scored three times.
The West Virginia offense was clicking on all cylinders as eight batters had a hit, and four batters had at least three hits. LeCroy paced the onslaught with his 4-4 night, but Lee Haydel added four hits, Caleb Gindl added three, Zelous Wheeler added four and Stephan Wilson hit a two-run home run.
While the West Virginia offense was the story of the night, their pitching staff was equally impressive. Starter R. J. Seidel lasted five innings, surrendering four hits, walking one Legend while striking out 4. Mike Ramlow pitched three hitless innings for West Virginia, and Wes Etheridge retired the Legends in the ninth to end the game.
Lexington lost its eighth consecutive home game and fell to 1-9 at home on the season. Legends starter Colt Adams failed to follow up on his strong start in Hickory, allowing seven runs in three and two-thirds innings. One night after striking out 13 Power batters, the Legends recorded five K's in the game.
Legends leadoff hitter Matt Cusick paced the offense with two hits in four plate appearances. The Legends scored their only two runs of the night in the ninth on a two-run double from Jonathan Fixler that scored Eric Taylor and Brandon Barnes.
The Legends will hope for better luck tomorrow night when they welcome the Lakewood Blueclaws to town. The first pitch of the Lakewood series is schedule for 7:05 p.m. at Applebee's Park.
