Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws proved to be too much for the Suns on Wednesay. Behind a four hit performance by Lakewood catcher Joe Naughton, the BlueClaws took the final game of the series 4-1.
Drew Naylor (1-2) picked up his first win of the year with six scoreless innings of work. Suns starter Colten Willems (1-2) received another tough loss as he went five innings and only gave up three runs.
For the second straight game the BlueClaws got on the board via the long ball. In the second inning designated hitter Karl Bolt took a Willems offering off the scoreboard in left field for his first home run of the season.
The BlueClaws added a run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Bolt picked up two more RBI on a sacrifice fly and a bloop single to left field.
Hagerstown plated their only run in the bottom of the seventh. Suns centerfielder Stephen Englund reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. He advanced to third on a double by second baseman Jake Smolinski then scored on an error by the relay man Dustin Mitchell.
Lakewood turned it over to reliever Jared Simon with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. The right hander retired the next four batters in order to collect his second save of the year.
The Suns now go on the road to face Greensboro on Thursday at 7:00 P.M. from First Verizon Park.
