Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
The West Virginia Power lost to the Lakewood BlueClaws 8-2 Thursday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The BlueClaws hit three home runs, including two two-run shots in the first, to capture the series opener.
Lakewood took the early lead against Kyle McPherson when Jonathan Villar hit a home run with Jiwan James on base. One out and three batters later, Sebastian Valle extended the BlueClaws lead to 4-0 with a two run home run of his own. Lakewood added runs in the second and third to build a 6-0 lead.
West Virginia's lone runs came in the third inning. Kyle Morgan led off with a double and scored when Evan Chambers hit his seventh home run of the year to cut the score to 6-2.
The BlueClaws plated two more runs against the Power bullpen in the sixth and seventh innings, including a solo home run by Anthony Hewitt, to close out the scoring at 8-2.
McPherson (4-6) took the loss, while Colby Shreve (4-3) gained the win. Chambers had the lone two-hit game for West Virginia, and five different Lakewood players had two or more hits.
The Power continue this three game homestand against the BlueClaws on Friday evening at 7:05 pm. Jason Erickson will pitch for West Virginia against Lakewood's Matt Way.
