HAGERSTOWN, Md. - DeAngelo Mack had three hits and three RBI, while Luke Murton drilled a three-run home run in the ninth inning, as the Charleston RiverDogs beat the Hagerstown Suns, 9-5, in South Atlantic League action at Municipal Stadium Thursday evening.

Charleston improves to 28-32 having won six of its last eight games, while Hagerstown has dropped four in a row in falling to 30-31.

With two outs in the second, Kyle Higashioka singled and Rob Lyerly doubled to put men at second at third. Mack then reached on an infield RBI single and another run scored on a throwing error giving Charleston a 2-0 lead against Hagerstown's Trevor Holder.

The Suns got those two runs back in the bottom half against Jose Ramirez on a RBI double from Francisco Soriano and a RBI single by Jeff Kobernus for a 2-2 tie.

Slade Heathcott struck out to lead off the third, but reached first on a throwing error that allowed him to advance all the way to third base, as the ball rolled into the right-field corner. On the very next pitch, an errant pickoff attempt to third brought Heathcott to the plate for a 3-2 Charleston advantage.

Mack ripped a RBI double in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-2.

Hagerstown retied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the frame on non-consecutive RBI doubles by Soriano and Kobernus.

J.R. Higley gave the Suns their first lead at 5-4 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth against RiverDogs reliever Ryan Acosta (4-1).

Lyerly roped his second double to start the sixth and scored on Mack's second RBI double for a 5-5 tie. A Kelvin Castro groundout moved Mack to third, who then scored on Heathcott's sacrifice fly against Hagerstown's Kyle Morrison (1-3) to retake the 6-5 lead.

Charleston's Francisco Gil allowed three hits to load the bases in the seventh inning, but fanned Suns' All-star catcher Sandy Leon and Soriano in succession to end the threat.

Murton punctuated the affair with a mammoth three-run home run to left field in the ninth for his eighth of the year and a 9-5 cushion.

Ramirez worked the first 4.0 innings for Charleston, surrendering four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts, while Holder, a 2010 SAL Northern Division All-Star, gave up a season-high five runs in his 5.0 innings.

Lyerly increased his hitting streak to six games - with five multi-hit efforts - going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Soriano and Destin Hood had three hits each for the Suns.

Game two of this set is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch on Friday night. Charleston plans to start right-hander Kelvin Perez (2-3, 3.82 ERA), while Hagerstown matches with right-hander Paul Demny (4-1, 2.77 ERA).
