Braves Cruise Past Drive

Rome, GA - Caleb Brewer and David Hale combined to toss a shutout that led the Rome Braves (26-34) past the Greenville Drive (31-31) by a 5-0 score Thursday night at State Mutual Stadium. Brewer got his first start in a Rome Braves uniform and he pitched well, giving up just one hit in his five innings of work. He struck out two and walked three. David Hale followed Brewer with four more shutout innings, giving up three hits with six strikeouts.

The Braves took the early 2-0 lead in the third inning. Cory Harrilchak scored on a failed fielders choice attempt when second baseman Zach Gentile missed a thrown ball allowing the run to score. Jake Hanson then singled to right would plate Jordan Kreke for the second run.

Rome added a run in the fifth when Kreke doubled and later scored on a Hanson double for the 3-0 score. The Braves added addition runs in the seventh inning on Kreke and Hanson RBI singles for the 5-0 final. Rome's Jordan Kreke went 4-4, scored three runs, and had one RBI while Jake Hanson went 3-3 and knocked in three runs.

Caleb Brewer (1-0) picks up his first win of the year for Rome while Greenville's Yeiper Castillo (4-4) gets the loss. David Hale earns his third save. Rome takes on Greenville again tomorrow at 7pm.
