(Rome, GA- May 26, 2014)- The West Virginia Power beat the Rome Braves 14-6 on Memorial Day at State Mutual Stadium. The Power backed starter Buddy Borden with 14 runs on 16 hits, both season-highs, helping the right-hander win his second straight decision.

West Virginia took a 6-0 lead in the first before Borden took the hill. With the bases loaded against Carlos Salazar, Erich Weiss singled in Harold Ramirez and Reese McGuire scored on a run-scoring ground out. After a walk to reload the bases, Justin Maffei walked to plate Weiss for a 3-0 lead. Elvis Escobar cleared the bases with a double for the six run advantage.

Leading 6-3 heading into the fifth, the Power added four more runs, keyed by a bases loaded triple from Maffei. West Virginia scored three in the sixth and added a run in the seventh for a 14-3 edge. The Braves hit a three-run home run in the ninth to close the scoring.

Borden (2-2) pitched five innings for his second straight win, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out six. Salazar (1-6) worked the first two innings for Rome, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks.

Eight of the nine Power hitters had at least one hit and six different players drove in at least one run. Weiss and Collins had three hits each while Maffei drove in four of the 14 runs.

West Virginia continues this series at Rome on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm. Cody Dickson and Matt Marksbury will start for the Power and Braves, respectively.
