Five-Run First Keys Tourists Win over Legends

(ASHEVILLE, N.C.) The Asheville Tourists scored five runs in the first inning and went on to a 10-3 win over the Lexington Legends Monday night.

Raimel Tapia and Cesar Galvez singled to start the bottom of the first, and Wilfredo Rodriguez doubled, scoring Tapia. Ryan McMahon struck out, but Correlle Prime doubled, scoring Galvez and Rodriguez. Jordan Patterson's single scored Prime. Jose Briceno singled to right field, and Patterson advanced to third on an error by right fielder Dex Kjerstad. A wild pitch by Legends starter Cody Reed allowed Patterson to score, giving Asheville a 5-0 lead.

The Legends got one run back in the third when Fred Ford doubled, went to third on a single by Dex Kjerstad and scored on a single by Samir Duenez.

Asheville extended the lead to 7-1 with two runs in the bottom of the third. With one out, Briceno was hit by a pitch. He came around to score on a double by White. A single by Emerson Jiminez sent White to third, from where he scored on a single by Tapia.

The Tourists added three more runs in the sixth inning. With two outs, McMahon doubled, Prime doubled, scoring McMahon and Patterson homered to make the score 10-1.

The Legends scored two runs in the seventh. Frank Schwindel led off with a single, and Humberto Arteaga was hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second. Ford's single scored Schwindel, and Arteaga also came home when White's throw from left field to third base was high.

Asheville starter Zach Jemiola (4-5) got the win. He worked the first seven innings, allowed five hits and three runs, two earned. He struck out eight batters and walked none. Trent Blank finished the game with two shutout innings.

Reed (0-5) took the loss.

The second game of the three-game series will be played Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7: 05 p.m.
