Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV- May 19, 2014) - The West Virginia fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park, 6-2. The Power took a 2-1 lead after one inning, but a three-run second inning for the 'Birds would be enough to pull away.
Delmarva wasted no time, scoring once when Mike Yastrzemski crossed the plate on a double play. West Virginia responded immediately in the bottom half behind an RBI single from Reese McGuire and an error on Delmarva, scoring JaCoby Jones.
The Shorebirds, however, answered with a three-run second inning. Justin Viele doubled home Josh Hart followed by an error that brought home two more runs for Delmarva. The 'Birds tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth with
Power starter Shane Carle (1-4) was charged with the loss despite giving up two earned runs in six innings of work. Shorebirds hurler Steven Brault (3-2) was earned the win while Dennis Torres (2) tallied the save. Reese McGuire extended his hit streak to 12 games with a 2-for-3 performance including an RBI.
