Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC-- For the fourth time in the last five games the Asheville Tourists notched double digit runs en route to a victory. On Monday, they defeated the Greenville Drive 10-3 in front of over 3,100 rowdy fans at McCormick Field.

It all started in the bottom of the first inning when the Tourists jumped all over Greenville's starting pitcher Trey Ball. With runners at the corners and one out, Ryan McMahon gave the home team a 1-0 lead with an RBI double to center. After Correlle Prime walked to load the bases, Raimel Tapia and Jose Briceno hit back-to-back RBI singles. Jordan Patterson hit a sacrifice fly to deep center and Alec Mehrten concluded the outburst with an RBI single.

In the top of the second, the Drive's manager, Darren Fenster, was given an early exit for arguing a caught stealing at second base. The Tourists did not let up in the bottom half. Tapia connected with another RBI single and Briceno worked an 11 pitch at-bat before slamming a two-run double down the left-field line.

Leading 8-0, Tourists starting pitcher Johendi Jiminian was cruising before running into trouble in the fifth. Jiminian allowed five Drive hitters in a row to reach base resulting in three runs.

Jiminian was pulled before he could record the final out of the inning and thus did not factor in the decision.

Trent Blank and Matt Carasiti had no problems closing the door; however, as the two relievers worked the final 4.1 innings without surrendering a run. Tapia gave the Tourists a little more cushion with a two-run Home Run in the bottom of the sixth. The left-fielder finished 3-for-3 with a Home Run, three runs scored, four RBI, and two walks. Briceno and Wilfredo Rodriguez each had three base hits as well.

Asheville wraps up their homestand on Tuesday morning and will attempt to sweep a four-game set from Greenville. The game begins at 11:05am.
